He folded the restaurant napkin in half and then folded it over again creating a division from one side of the table to the other.
“What is holding you back from making your decision? What will it take for you to move from this side,” he pointed to one side of the napkin, “to this side?”
Making a life altering choice freezes our brains. Often it is not until we are “sick of being sick and tired” as Dave Ramsey says that we are ready for change. And when we grow so fed up with a situation, change is still hard. Fear holds us in its grasp…fear of the unknown, life in limbo, our desire to make the ‘perfect’ choice.
Author Marilyn Ferguson stated:” “It’s not so much that we’re afraid of change or so in love with the old ways, but it’s that place in between that we fear . . . . It’s like being between trapezes. It’s Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There’s nothing to hold on to.”
So what are you afraid of that is keeping you from crossing over the line? Why are you afraid to step through a major decision? Through self-reflection you may find out something new about yourself. You may find out what you are wrongly placing your trust in. You may realize you are crossing that line for all the wrong reasons. Or you may just find the freedom by jumping over that invisible line.
“Ultimately we know deeply that the other side of every fear is freedom.” Marilyn Ferguson
